About Kaye

At eleven, I wanted to become the world's youngest published author, writing sweeping epic romances. Obsessed by the film 'Spartacus' , I set about writing a novel charting the life of Virinnia, his slave wife, before she met her heroic lover. I soon found out that I didn't have a clue about life, people, history or writing. I think those first painful pages are still around somewhere...

I moved on at the age of fifteen to a fully drafted romance. I became the proud owner of a rejection letter from Mills and Boon. I left it there for a bit. Good move.

My ambitions veered for a while to acting and a degree in Drama and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway College, London University. So I became a systems analyst. (Hmmm...). A varied career followed, including the writing of training manuals. But writing about photocopiers just didn't tick all the boxes for me.

My love of the stage lead to a passion for community theatre. During this I met my husband-to-be and life began to really shape up, leading to the birth of my gorgeous son. My husband introduced me to a friend who quite simply changed my life. She became my creative saviour, muse and soul-sister. The talented Kaye Tompkins, composer, musician and articulate theatre artist , who helped me to find creative confidence. I haven't been able to stop telling stories since.

As The Writing Team (otherwise known as the two Kayes, or the Kak Sisters) we have written nearly eight original musical theatre pieces, including two professional castings, one London showcase and a commissioned cantata for children. We also gained professional representation through the Sharland Organisation. We're proud of these achievements and now working on our next piece.

In the last couple of years, I have also returned to my original love of novel writing. I had previously created a TV script for a romantic comedy, with a paranormal twist, but felt the story needed fleshing out to be fully realised. I transferred the work into book form and felt the characters suddenly spring to life. The result is my debut novel (let's just pretend my Spartacus moment didn't happen eh...?). The book is called The Treeman and is available through Amazon Kindle and Lulu. You can read more about it here.
